So basically I just graduated from University of Miami with a B.F.A in Acting and this is my first job in the "Real World". I decided that I would document this wild adventure and share with everyone the fear, the rewards and the reality of doing a 12 month Children's Theatre National Tour. My job is to arrive into town Sunday, audition 25-350 kids Monday and by Saturday pull off a full musical production of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" starring yours truly, Christopher Nelson Harbur.

Hardest week ever...

The most amazing week of my touring life would be directly preceded by the most challenging. Last week was sort of surreal in a way as our every need was tended to
with the utmost support...This week has been a bit different
It began with the onslaught of 69 kids auditioning which is a scary number because our policy says that if 69 kids or less show up, 69 need kids need to be cast. If 70 kids show up, you can cut 15, but 69 is the "lucky" number. Of course we didn’t know that 16 kids (a lead mermaid, the king, and ALL 4 assistant directors to name a few) would quit, cutting our cast from 69 to 53. Now it may seem that this would be a blessing in disguise, but the fact that so many older kids bailed out, reeeeeally de-railed us.
First I had to be the king (which I had never attempted), then we had to re-write lines because we simply didn't have anyone to replace our mermaid, Amelia, so the other mermaids had to re-learn edited lines in a wildly short time. We jokingly threw around the idea of calling up some of our kids from last week considering half of our sea scouts decided to quit as well us as we ended up with 5 of them, instead of the usual 12. But Shirnest and I are TROOPERS and would not be defeated! So we did what we had to do and pulled off 2 pretty darn good shows although at one point during the second show I gave up trying to keep the kids quiet backstage and all mayhem broke loose....oops.
